Jishouji Temple was built by Ashikaga Yoshimasa,

the 8th shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate.

You can quietly feel the traditional beauty of Higashiyama's culture

through its Zen Buddhism-influenced architecture and karesansui garden.

 



 

～philosophical path～（8min. walk）

It is said that the name comes from a philosopher, Ikutaro Nishida,

who strolled along this path in the Meiji era (1868-1912) while being lost in thought.

You can enjoy a leisurely stroll while feeling the tranquility of Kyoto

with the beautiful scenery of the four seasons.

The most popular is the Uji green tea zenzai.

Shaved ice with green tea is also recommended in summer.

Opened in 1973, this facility has a wide range of books from dictionaries to manga.

Anyone can use it, open until midnight, you can bring in snacks, drinks,

and lunches, and there is a computer outlet.

They deal in high quality lacquerware made by many artisans such as woodworkers,

lacquerists and maki-e artists.

We recommend easily available chopsticks as a souvenir.
