Onishi-san is the name of Nishi Honganji Temple,
the head temple of the Honganji School of the Jodo Shinshu sect of Buddhism,
located in Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto, and is affectionately known
by its nickname to distinguish it from Higashi Honganji Temple.
The precincts of the temple are designated as a national historic site,
and the temple aims to be open to the public by holding events that are open to all.
Nowadays, events have been cancelled due to the effects of the corona,
but you can still visit the temple ^^.
1「Otani Honbyo 大谷本廟」
This is the graveyard of Shinran Shonin, the founder
of the Jodo Shinshu sect of Buddhism, as well as other priests of the past.
It is also a place where many people visit to pay their respects and smoke incense.
2「Karamon 唐門」
The gorgeously decorated gate with many carvings is
nicknamed the "Higurashi-mon 日暮らし門"
because the sun will set before you know it if you admire its beauty.
